M1 carbine "inscribed name"?

M1 carbine "inscribed name"?

Postby second shooter » Sun Jan 24, 2010 1:57 pm

Hi, i recently picked up an inland division M1 Carbine, i took it apart and gave it a good clean, on the metal tab that secures the wooden top cover to the reciever there is a name and part of a number scratched in its fairly faint but i think the name is "ted jones" and the number is "8?4" most likley "804" but it is worn from rubbing on the reciever.
has anybody come across this before on M1s and is there any database on ww2 or korean service men or where do i start trying to track down more info on this guy(any name but jones would have been good), i tried google and got thousands of jones, thedores , teds and edwards?
cheers tim

The number, 8?2, is probably the last three digits of the person's army number. This might help narrow down the list of possible Jones.
